The yarn swift is a tool used by knitters to turn yarn from a loop into a roll. It’s been around for a long time and helps knitters work with their yarn. While most of these tools are wooden nowadays, there were some made from whale bone a long time ago. I’ve seen two old ones at museums in Maine and Massachusetts. I have a wooden swift myself which lets me handle the yarn without needing extra help.

One thing for sure, if you want to draw a crowd, set up a swift in a public place and start winding yarn. People are fascinated by it. Whenever Knitting Guild Members from Boston are at the Plimoth Patuxet demonstrating the knitting of 17th century garb, and a swift is set up, a crowd gathers around. Arne and Carlos Bags

Knitting Arne and Carlos Net Bags is a good way to take a break from a major project. They are fun to do and soooo many colors to chose from using cotton either Schachenmayer Catania or Patons.
